Running for the RI General Assembly

Yeah, that's right, I've finally succumbed to the peer pressure here at the Great Orange Satan and thrown by battered old "Dean for America" hat into the ring.  I'm running for a seat in the Rhode Island General Assembly.

The lower house of the GA, the House of Representatives, has 75 members, and my own district, the 75th, was held by Democrat Paul W. Crowley.  Crowley died of cancer back in September 2007, and in a special election the seat was won by a Republican, Steve Coaty.  Now it's time for Coaty to defend his seat, and he's got two Democratic challengers: me, and a guy named Peter Martin.

Peter's a good guy, and is more involved in local affairs than I am.  He's probably going to win the Democratic primary on September 9 (though you didn't hear that from me).  Still, a primary contest is a good way to build support, so I'm going to go the distance and try to give Peter a good opponent to run against and a chance to practice before the main event with Coaty.

I plan to run a shoestring campaign, because I frankly don't have any money to spare.  There'll be no bumper stickers, no lawn signs, no buttons; just me, my two basenjis, and some recycled electrons jumping around in my campaign blog, The Spirit of 75.
